The New Mexico Music Awards were created to recognize excellence in music production in New Mexico.
The Awards are open to original recordings produced, recorded and mixed primarily within the state of New Mexico between January 1st and December 31st, 2019 or released as new product between January 1st and December 31st 2019. This means that all productions, amateur or professional, must have been primarily recorded and produced at a home or professional studio within the state of New Mexico. The NMMA must be able to verify the recording location via physical address of the recording and/or production studio. Contact information for the recording/production studio, home or commercial, must be provided on the entry form.
Recording, production and/or copyright dates will be used to determine the eligibility of each entry. Entrants must be able to verify copyright ownership of original material or recordings entered. Recordings or materials submitted to the NMMA in previous years are not eligible. Re-recordings of previous entries may not be entered into any category including the “Best Cover Song” category.
There are two ways to enter: (Please note that the entry forms will not be available until January 1st, 2020.)
- Fill out the online e-form and upload your audio files
- Download and print the docx or PDF form and mail it in with your submission (audio recording).
All entry forms must contain complete contact information for the entrant and studio where the production was recorded.
For online submissions, you must complete the form and upload an audio file to our Dropbox file submission. A link to the Dropbox account is listed in section three of the form. You should receive an automatic reply letting you know that your e-form and audio file have been accepted.
Please print clearly on the entry forms. Illegible or incomplete entry forms may cause the entry to be disqualified. Mis-categorized entries may be disqualified.
Mail in entry forms must accompany the entry CD or DVD and the lower portion of the entry form must be attached to the physical entry. Please do not tape these to the entry as the may become damaged during removal. Rubber bands used to attach these labels are preferred. Mislabeled CD’s/DVD’s or CD’s/DVD’s with playback audio problems may be disqualified.
A Compact Disc (CD/DVD) may contain material for more than one entry in single length categories. An entry form for each entry on the disc must accompany the disc. The name of the entrant must be printed clearly on the face of the CD. Titles for each entry must be clearly printed on the CD or case and an index of the CD/DVD should also be provided. Multiple entries will be allowed only on properly indexed compact discs.
Video entries may be submitted on a DVD and in a recognized PC format such .mp4 or .mov. or may be uploaded online.
Full-length categories require separate a CD/DVD or uploaded audio or video file including any artwork for the purposes of judging. Full-length entries must be commercially available at the time of entry. Commercially available is defined as either packaged for retail sales including a UPC code and available for sale to the general public through retail outlets, online or through internet retailers like Apple Music, Amazon, CD Baby or other online music or retail service.
“Entrant” is defined as the person submitting the entries. Entries without contact information will be disqualified. Multiple entries may be mailed in a single package.
An entry fee of $25.00 plus an applicable sales tax of $1.88 for a total of $26.88 is per entry is required. (A separate processing fee may be required when paying online.) Any song or CD entered in multiple categories requires an entry fee for each category entered. A check or money order for the total amount of the entry payable to New Mexico Music Awards (NMMA) must accompany each entry. CASH WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED. Returned checks will render that entry ineligible and a returned check fee of $15.00 will be charged. Multiple entries must be submitted together with one check or money order for the total amount of all entry fees. Entry fees are not refundable.
Mail in entries must be postmarked by January 31st, 2020. You may also drop off your entry in person by close of business, Saturday, February 8th, 2020 at one of our retail locations. Mail your entries to NMMA, PO Box 6552, Albuquerque, NM 87197.
E-form entries must be received by 10:00 PM MST, Saturday, February 8th, 2020. Payment for e-form entries will be processed through our Paypal account.
Entries will not be returned. Entrant gives the NMMA permission to use their music, likeness, artwork, video and website for the purposes of promoting the awards program.
Awards will be presented at a banquet on May 17th, 2020. You need not be present to win. Entry into the Awards program does not guarantee entry into the banquet. Banquet attendees, including finalists, must purchase a ticket to the event to attend. Seating is limited. One (1) trophy per category will be presented. Additional trophies will be available for purchase for thirty (30) days after the awards banquet. Only NMMA winning participants are eligible to purchase duplicate trophies.
