New Mexico Jazz Workshop Educational Programs for Winter/Spring 2018

The New Mexico Jazz Workshop offers a variety of Youth and Adult Education programs throughout the year. Registration is now open for all of the programs. Here are a few things that the NMJW has to offer with details below or go to for complete information about the NMJW and its programs.

Education is a high priority at the New Mexico Jazz Workshop. Since 1994, NMJW has positively impacted the lives of over 100,000 local youth through quality music education programming. Students return year after year to attend Camp Bee-Jammin’ and thousands of Albuquerque Public School students have enjoyed our Roots of Jazz assemblies. The Summer Jazz Intensive offers skills building for students ages 12 to 18 in the art of Jazz Improvisation.

One way that the New Mexico Jazz Workshop is making a big difference in young lives is through our Empowerment Through Music program. The “prevention” component of this program is The South Valley Band Project, free out-of school- time music classes for at-risk and underserved middle schoolers. The “intervention” component of this program, The Digital Technology Project, helps youth who are incarcerated and on probation through therapeutic writing, music composition and digital engineering. They learn to address issues in appropriate ways while gaining valuable skills. It seems simple, but these programs are changing young lives for the better.

Meanwhile, the NMJW Adult Education programming allows musicians and others to explore and develop their skills in music.
