New Albuquerque Song Competition Announced

The New Mexico Music Awards Songwriter’s Initiative announces a competition open to residents living within the state of New Mexico. The challenge is to compose a song about Albuquerque which may be used to promote the city of Albuquerque nationally and internationally.

The competition entry period will be July 1st-31st, 2014. Finalists will be announced on August 15th and will perform their songs as part of a live concert before a panel of judges in September who will choose a grand prize winner and two runners up. The competition is open to professional and non-professional musicians alike.

The song must use the name “Albuquerque” as the title and/or as part of the lyrics. The Eric Larson Endowment at the University of New Mexico provides scholarship money to currently enrolled juniors or seniors who have declared music or a related field as their major.

Our recipient this year is Michael Bryant. He received his Bachelor's Degree in Music, Film, Theater and Digital Media in May of 2013 and is now pursuing his Master's Degree. His ultimate goal is to one day open his own school for music production.
