2013 New Mexico Music Awards. It's a wrap.

The 2013 New Mexico Music Award program was a stunning success. Well had exceptional performances from hONEyhoUSe, who hosted our pre-show reception. Randy Granger, Jazz Brasilerio, Rushingwind & Mucklow, CW Ayon, Transit and the Country Blues Revue all wowed the audience of nearly 300.

We also honored New Mexico Jazz Legend Arlen Asher with the Eric Larson Lifetime Achievement Award and recognized our Eric Larson Endowment Scholarship grantee Sean Trauth. We love seeing our old friends and making new ones each and every year.

Kito Peters, Simon Snaize and David Craigin walked away with the Best CD of the Year Award for Kito Peters "Capital Dreams" while John Wall and hONEyhoUSe captured the Norman Petty Producer's Award for the hONEhoUSe CD "Medicine Lodge". The Tribute Trio won for Best Jazz CD for their project "Dedications Volume II" and Liv Lombardi took home the awards for Best Pop CD for her "Self-Medicate" CD. 2013 Native American Music Award winners Rushingwind & Mucklow and the Native Rock band Saving Damsels also won awards on Sunday. Also honored were those in the music community who passed away during the past year including drummer James Magnarella, Mariachi master Roberto "Don Roberto" Martinez, Singer/Songwriter Jennifer Robin, "Mr. Saxaphone" John Kilpatrick, Santa Fe songwriter, J. Elle and 2009 Eric Larson Lifetime Achievement Award winner Lewie Wickham.

New Mexico Jazz Workshop’s Summer Jazz Intensive June 3th -- July 12th -- $450
Summer Jazz Intensive for Teens is an extraordinary, six-week summer jazz camp for kids of all music skill levels. Held at Albuquerque Academy, the Summer Jazz Intensive offers a comprehensive, fundamental, and challenging introduction to jazz for teens in a supportive and stimulating environment. Students will study techniques such as soloing, arranging, jazz theory, ensemble performance, and improvisation-- the cornerstone of all jazz training.
